Product Description

For procurement and engineering teams sourcing waterproof membrane solutions for infrastructure, industrial, or commercial projects, Haiming provides a PVC-based system with three structural configurations. The homogeneous membrane maintains flexibility for irregular substrates, the composite reinforced grade incorporates polyester scrim for tensile load distribution, and the backing type with self-adhesive or non-woven fabric addresses site-specific attachment needs. Unlike general-purpose sheeting, Haiming PVC Waterproof Membrane targets applications where chemical exposure, root penetration, or thermal movement requires a controlled, testable barrier.

Product Line Overview: Three Structural Grades

Homogeneous (Non-Reinforced) Type

A uniform polyvinyl chloride film without internal reinforcement. Suitable for substrates where differential movement or crack bridging is the primary design concern.
  • Thickness range: 1.2 – 2.0 mm
  • Key characteristic: High elongation, conforms to irregular or moving surfaces
  • Use case: Renovation overlays, curved substrates, secondary containment liners

Composite Reinforced Type

Polyester fiber grid or non-woven fabric embedded within the PVC matrix. Provides measurable improvement in tensile and tear resistance for load-bearing assemblies.
  • Thickness range: 1.5 – 3.0 mm
  • Key characteristic: Increased dimensional stability under mechanical stress
  • Use case: Plaza decks, vehicular traffic surfaces, landfill cap systems

Backing Type (Self-Adhesive / Non-Woven Backed)

Factory-applied adhesive layer or non-woven fabric laminated to the underside of the membrane. Reduces on-site priming or mechanical fastener requirements.
  • Thickness range: Same as homogeneous or reinforced grades (project specific)
  • Key characteristic: Attachment versatility – peel-and-stick or cementitious bond
  • Use case: Confined spaces, splash zones, vertical wall waterproofing

Core Performance Characteristics (Material Properties)

Low Water Absorption – ≤0.04%

The molecular density of polyvinyl chloride restricts capillary penetration. When installed with welded seams, the waterproof membrane forms a continuous barrier without wicking or edge wicking. This supports long-term hydrostatic head resistance in below-grade walls or inverted roof assemblies.

Thermal Stability and UV Resistance

Haiming formulations include UV stabilizers and plasticizers designed for -40°C flexibility and 80°C heat aging. Unlike asphalt membranes, this PVC grade does not rely on surface mineral granules for UV protection – the entire cross-section maintains consistent properties. For exposed roof applications, the waterproof membrane retains elongation without cracking or surface erosion after accelerated weathering tests.

Mechanical Strength – Tensile and Elongation

  • Homogeneous grade: ≥500% elongation allows bridging of settled joints or shrinkage cracks.
  • Reinforced grade: ≥16 N/mm tensile strength supports direct traffic loads or ballasted assemblies.

When combined, these values allow the waterproof membrane to function as both a waterproofing layer and a stress-distributing sheet in multi-layer systems.

Chemical Resistance Profile

Laboratory immersion tests in pH 4 sulfuric acid, pH 9 sodium hydroxide, and saturated sodium chloride at 40°C show no surface degradation, mass change >1%, or flexibility loss. This enables use in:

  • Chemical manufacturing secondary containment
  • Wastewater treatment tank liners
  • Agricultural effluent ponds
  • Tunnel drainage channels with de-icing salt runoff

Recyclability and Material Recovery

PVC scrap from roll ends, cut-offs, or seam trimmings can be reground and reintroduced into new membrane production. Haiming maintains a take-back protocol for job site remnants per ISO 14001 guidelines. This distinguishes the waterproof membrane from multi-layer or bituminous systems that require separation before disposal.

Installation Methods by Substrate and Access

Hot-Air Welding (most common)

  • Process: Heat gun (typically 400–600°C air temperature) melts overlapping edges; pressure roller fuses surfaces.
  • Result: Weld strength ≥80% of parent material.
  • Suitable for: All Haiming types except pre-applied self-adhesive backing when adhesive is exposed.

Cold Adhesive Application

  • Process: Solvent-based or waterborne adhesive rolled onto substrate and membrane back.
  • Advantages: No flame, no hot-air equipment in confined spaces.
  • Limitation: Requires dry, dust-free surface and cure time.

Mechanical Fastening (for large roof areas)

  • Process: Extruded aluminum or galvanized steel battens placed over membrane seams; fasteners driven into structural deck.
  • Typical spacing: 200–300 mm along batten.
  • Fastener heads covered by subsequent membrane strip welded over top.

Self-Adhesive Backing Peeling (backing type only)

  • Process: Release liner removed; membrane pressed onto primed concrete or metal.
  • Immediate bond: Initial tack holds membrane in place while perimeter and lap seams receive hot-air weld.

Common Project Applications

Facility Type Recommended Grade Reason
Plaza deck / Green roof Reinforced Root resistance (tested per EN 13948), compressive load from soil and traffic
Chemical plant bund wall Homogeneous or Reinforced Acid/alkali exposure; welded seams eliminate adhesive failure
Subway tunnel Homogeneous Movement joints; high elongation for concrete cracking
Parking garage ramp Reinforced Vehicular abrasion; tensile strength for wheel loads
Reservoir cover Homogeneous Floating cover flexibility; UV exposure
Below-grade foundation wall Backing type Vertical installation; self-adhesive holds during backfill

Logistics and Handling Considerations

Roll Dimensions (typical)

  • Width: 1.0 m, 1.5 m, 2.0 m
  • Length: 15 m – 25 m per roll (thickness dependent)
  • Packaging: Wrapped on cardboard core; palletized in moisture-barrier film

Storage Requirements

  • Keep rolls upright on pallets
  • Avoid direct ground contact
  • Cover with opaque tarp if stored outdoors for >30 days
  • Storage temperature range: 0°C to 40°C (prevent plasticizer migration)

Quality and Compliance

Haiming PVC Waterproof Membrane is manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality management and tested according to:

  • GB/T 23457 (China standard for waterproof membranes)
  • EN 13956 (European standard for flexible sheets for roofing)
  • ASTM D4434 (US standard for PVC roofing sheet)

Reinforced grade additionally passes static puncture resistance per ASTM E154.
